Mission to Mars: Is the effort to combat boredom on a mission to Mars worth the expense?

   
      Living on Mars has always marveled the minds of many humans. Yet, boredom is an obstacle and one of the biggest threats to a manned mission to Mars. Space explorers, researchers, and astronauts have been trying to find ways to combat boredom on the long journey so that the astronauts will not suffer from chronic boredom and depression. Although some people believe the effort to combat boredom on a mission to Mars is worth the expense, I believe otherwise. I believe we should stay on Earth and fix the many problems humanity is facing today.
      Remaining on Earth and focusing on the many problems we face today will be much more beneficial for humanity. One, more money should be allocated to helping the poor and needy, the homeless, the orphans, and the people who are living in war. According to DoSomething.org, "22,000 children die each day due to poverty." Two, we have been gifted with Earth, the only planet that can perfectly support life. So, we should take care of it instead of ruining it and then leaving it. Three, we don't know if the mission to Mars will be successful in the first place. If it's not, that will be a huge waste of money that could have been used for better causes. Yet, space explorers, researchers, and astronauts are still focused on coming up with ways to attempt to avoid boredom while travelling the long journey to Mars. For instance, researchers created a unique office culture where the astronauts travelling to Mars celebrate a ridiculous amount of holidays, those of which are both cultural and invented, so they have something to look forward to.
      Although living on Mars may sound exciting, staying on Earth and sustaining it and its people will be much better for humanity. We should dedicate our money to helping the ones in need instead of helping the ones who are too focused on reaching the stars. However, researchers, space explorers, and astronauts continue to try to find ways to combat boredom on the journey to Mars, even though the effort to combat boredom on a mission to Mars is not worth the expense.
